DISTRIBUTION PROGRAMME OF KIWI FRUIT & WALNUT PLANTING MATERIALS UNDER NEC FUNDED PROJECT OF ICAR AP CENTRE BASAR ORGANIZED BY KVK ANJAW

Popularizing the cultivation of Temperate fruits in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, a one day “training cum input distribution programme of Kiwi fruit & Walnut planting materials” under NEC funded project of ICAR for NEH Region, A.P. CENTRE BASAR was organized by KVK Anjaw at Khupa camp on 23rd of January 2019.

Altogether 69 farmers, farm women and rural youths from different villages of 3 circles i.e. Chaglongam, Hayuliang and Manchal attended the training programme. The programme was graced by Shri. Sode Potom, APCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Anjaw district as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present were Dr. H. Kalita, Joint Director, ICAR AP Centre, Basar, Dr. Manish Kanwat, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Anjaw, Dr. Rajesh Alone, Scientist, ICAR AP Centre, Basar and Ms Rebecca Eko, SMS, Horticulture, KVK Anjaw.

The programme started with the welcome address by Dr. H. Kalita, Joint Director, ICAR AP Centre, Basar. He welcomed the participants and briefed the gathering about the importance of organizing this training & highlighted the importance of kiwi & walnut cultivation. He further explained the artificial pollination used in kiwi plantation.

The chief guest of the programme, Shri. Sode Potom, APCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Hayuliang in his speech enlighten the farmers about the potential of kiwi fruit to be the next promising crop of the district. He also appreciated the KVK officials to work with enthusiasm in transferring the need based technologies to the farming community.

In the technical session, Ms Rebecca Eko, SMS Horticulture gave a detail power point presentation on the package & practices of kiwi fruit. She elaborated the different varieties, proper layout, planting season, planting distance, intercultural operations and training & pruning techniques.

The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Manish Kanwat, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Anjaw and appreciated to all the participants for their cooperation. At the end of the programme, 6,000 nos. of kiwi fruit & 1,200 nos. of walnut planting materials were distributed to the farmers.
